Youth Council meets once a month and talks about up coming events and has influence on what the Youth Centre activities are and what we need at the Youth Centre.

Looking at What's New at the Youth Centre!

If you haven't been in a while things have been changing rapidly around here. We had a great summer of fun and games, and also had great summer staff too. Thank you Deb.

Now that we are back to school, we are making more changes. We have a new staff member, Catherine. You might know her from other places around the Woolwich Memorial Centre. Can you guess where?

Also we tried out some things this summer that we have decided that just didn't work with the youth that are here. So we are changing it back. What am I talking about? The youth age specific nights. As of right now, all youth can come on all nights! There are going to be nights when there are age restrictions sometimes but not a lot, and we will let you know ahead of time.

During our monthly Youth council meeting, it was suggested that the youth centre open at 3 p.m. So after crossing all our t's and dotting our i's, as of Oct 5, 2010. We are open from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for after school resource and then 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This is a three month trial an will be re-evaluate in January 2011.

There maybe more but that is all from me this time.

Who is EXCITED for summer???

Get ready for an exciting week at the Youth Centre... Tuesday we are headed to BINGEMANS for a day of waterpark fun. Cost of the event is $15 plus lunch money if you desire. Spots are limited so bring in your money or call the YC ASAP!

Wednesday we are testing your musical skill at ROCK BAND, bring a friend and get ready to challenge another band! Also, a reminder that there is a Youth Council meeting Wednesday @ 7:00pm at the Woolwich Memorial Centre. Please be prompt.

Haven't had enough of the World Cup....come out Thursday for a soccer match outside at the WMC. Bring some friends and don't forget your water bottle (with this heat you'll want to keep hydrated!).

Our walk to Lazer Video for ice cream permission forms are due in on Friday....get it signed and bring it in....

WE HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS!!!!! We have hired our new SUMMER STUDENT who will be here with us ALL SUMMER LONG! Make sure to pop in and say HI to DEB :)

This week at the YC

Tonight we kick off our summer hours where Tuesday nights are delegated to grades 6, 7 & 8. Today we are running a Movie Marathon - showing "Percy Jackson & the Olympians (The Lightening Thief)" and "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". Come out tomorrow, we are going strawberry picking in the afternoon @ Floradale Farm...you will need to have a permission form signed and returned before we leave at 4pm. As always, first come first served (spaces are limited). Thursday night is delegated to grades 9 and older and we are heading over to the pool for 7:30pm (cost is $2.15) no permission form required, hope to see you there!!! We have had many requests to hold another FEAR FACTOR...you asked, we are delivering!!! Come out Friday for this event....every member from the winning team wins a ballot into our July draw for a $25.00 gift card to Conestoga Mall....

Don't forget to bring in your pizza forms and moola for Palm pizza night. We need all forms in by tonight, if you want pizza tomorrow. Cost is $1.00 per slice and $1.00 per can of pop.

UP & COMING...Next week

Tues - we are in the garden...pulling weeds and tending to our crops. Last week we planted our potatoes, hopefully with all the wet weather we have had - we will have some green stuff coming up.

Wed - Scene IT night!! Karyn will be away, and we will have a special visit from our good friend Michelle.

To Galaxy & beyond...

Tonight, we are headed to Galaxy Cinemas to see Iron Man 2. All of those interested must sign up before 6:00pm tonight. The van leaves at 6:30 pm - first come, first reserved.

Tomorrow is a night of Skipbo & treats...suggestions for treats always welcome.

Friday - Help required for our community garden plot. The weeds are making the presence known - Let's make out presence know, and pull them!!!

ICE CREAM SOCIAL!!

Hey everyone, next Thursday June 3rd, we are challenging you to FEAR FACTOR. For you who don't know - this is a game of great skill... NOT! It is a game of dare. We will dare you to eat disgusting (mind you edible) combinations of food. Come out to win the title of Fear Factor Champion.

Friday June 4th we are holding a YC Ice Cream Social. Come out for 7pm and bring your loonies and quarters. Scoops will be $1.00 each and toppings $0.25 each. Proceeds will go back to YOUR youth centre. A great opportunity to bring a new friend, neighbour or classmate. Hope you come out to enjoy some frozen fun on Friday.

Lazy Summer Dayz....well almost

Hey YCers - After a weekend like the long weekend we just had, it can be difficult to get back into the school day routine. We are here to make it a bit easier and more enjoyable!! Tonight at the YC we are having our monthly Round Table Discussion. Tonight's topic is all things SUMMER!! That's right, hope you are bringing your grand ideas of summertime fun - we will be creating our summer calenders.

Tomorrow the arena will be closed, thus our location will be closed as well. HOWEVER WE WILL MEET AT THE JOHN MAHOOD PLAYGROUND/FIELD for some outside prelude to SUMMER. Please meet us there for 6:30pm.

Thursday we are focusing on Chemical Free Living - as our Healthy Goal for the month of May. Plan to meet at the YC for 7:00pm to participate in the discussion.

Permission forms are available for Friday evening's outing to Kitchener's Fairview Park Mall. There is no cost for this outing, but you are welcome to bring spending money for any extras you are purchasing.

Pool Tourney

If you aren't planning on hitting the Woolwich YC tonight, you should be changing your plans - We have a POOL tournament lined up...come early to reserve a spot in the game. The tourney begins @ 7:05pm sharp. As always, we have computers, Wii, Foosball & air hockey. Grab a couple friends and HANG at the Youth Centre!!

REMINDER** Youth Council meets this Thursday, May 20th @ 7:00pm in the Seniors Centre at the Woolwich Memorial Centre. Participants MUST sign in at the YC prior to heading over. Please be on time - We are excited to hear your ideas this month!!

Thanks to all who came out to last nights swim night!!! To all others...we had some great conversations :)

Tonight @ the YC we are having a spontaneous movie night - watching either Narnia (Prince Caspian) or Fantastic 4 -highest votes win!!! Popcorn will be a poppin'!!

Lets get this garden started...

...by coming out tonight and suggesting what you'd like to see in your Youth Centre garden. Our garden will be located in the Snyder ave. WCS Community Garden. Our plot is approximately 20-25 sq. feet large. We have enough space to plant a great garden, remember no squash (this includes pumpkin) or sunflowers. We also need some energetic volunteers who will make themselves available to plant the garden next week (weather and tilling permitted). Look forward to seeing you tonight!

Libby was HERE!!

So its true....Libby Barrie came to visit tonight. She didn't bring Puff (the Fish) or Elliott (the Elephant), but she did bring some great advice and techniques. A gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who came out and shared their ideas, experiences and concerns with Libby - I think its unanimous that we learned a great deal. THANK YOU LIBBY :)

Also, for those of you who did not get a chance to make a Mother's Day bouquet for Mom or that special "Mom" in your life - its not too late. Come out tomorrow night to the YC and get your craft on.

Update: Awesome Night of GAMES & More

Tonight at the Woolwich Youth Centre we played 20 rounds of Pictionary! TEAM FLADOODLE took on TEAM CHEESE in a close competition. We have some budding artist among us, that's for sure. Whether it was "Frosty the Snowman", "Frog" or "Peanut Butter & Jelly", our youth mastered it. Winners won a yummy prize - Way to go TEAM CHEESE!

MOTHER'S DAY is this SUNDAY - Do you have a gift for that important Mother figure in your life? We are making a crafty gift at the YC on Tuesday May 5 @7:00pm. Come out and create a make n' take for Mother's Day.

As always the Youth Centre has something for everyone (grades 6-age 19) in Woolwich Township. Come out for a game of pool, surf the net, play the Wii or meet new friends. Hope to see you all soon!!

Youth Cente Nominations

Youth Council members are needed for St Teresa's, EDSS, Home School and SJAM. If interested please talk to Karyn or Tiffany.

The Woolwich Youth Centre is holding a bake sale on February 3rd, from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. The bake sale money collected will go towards supporting Haiti during their time of crisis. The bake sale will be held at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, in the lobby. We cannot guarantee that all baked goods brought in will be nut free. If you would like to bake some kind of goodie for the sale or would like further information about the sale, please contact Karyn or Tiffany at 519-669-3539.
